A large Botswana Agate gemstone hand set in silver complete with a substantial 20 inch silver chain weighing 4.17 grams . (The chain is slightly thicker ans heavier than the one in the image) The gemstone exhibits beautiful banding near the base and a small swirl near the top.
Agate is a silicaceous mineral also known as chalcedony, formed due to the deposition of silica from groundwater percolating into cavities within igneous rocks . It is often deposited in concentric layers , therefore exhibiting a banded pattern .
