Moss Agate is a beautiful gemstone with dendritic moss like patterns in green, orange or red migrating throughout the stone . The gemstone seems to have real moss strands within it but in fact the appearance is due to its mineral composition. Each gemstone is completely unique. 

Moss Agate is a silicon dioxide with thread like dendritic inclusions caused by the presence of oxides of manganese or iron. These dendrites create the moss like patterns within the stone .  Moss Agate is formed when silica rich ground waters percolate into pre existing weathered volcanic rocks.  This is a slow and complex geological process. Agate artefacts have been found in Neolithic deposits dating back 10.000 BC .

This gemstone is quite enigmatic. Hold it up to the light and see a wonderful glimpse of Nature`s beauty. Place it on a white surface and the appearance chages again . When worn it has a beautiful subtle appearance against the skin 

Moss Agate is thought to encourage tranquility and emotional balance and was often exchanged as a token between friends. It is one of the birthstones for Virgo.
