Labradorite occurs in Igneous rocks such as Basalt and Gabbro and also in metamorphic rocks such as Gneiss.  A plagioclase feldspar mineral  , displaying a deeply irridescent optical effect called labradorescence. The stone looks quite different dependung on the lighting conditions . It may display vibrant blue hues or appear more grey in colour . The two images show the differences. 

According to native Inuit legend, the Northern lights were imprisoned in the rocks of the Labrador coast and so Labradorite was created.
