Turquoise is an hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium and is formed when copper rich solutions percolate into pre-existing rocks. The water content evaporates, the copper combines with aluminium and phosphorous to form Turquoise.

 Most of the major ancient civilizations believed Turquoise to have potent healing and spiritual powers. It was also used as an amulet for protection especially by the peoples of the Americas. It was attached to arrows , horse saddles and other artefacts to assist with protection.
