The birthstone for February and Aquarius, born between 20th January and 18th February, is Amethyst – a type of crystalline quartz and appearing in many shades of purple. The word Amethyst comes from the Greek word amethystos or amethuskein, meaning “not drunken” or "non-intoxicating"! Amethyst is also thought to help creative thinking and in the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui, Amethyst is believed to enhance the wealth corner focusing on the giving and receiving of material wealth. Tibetans also consider Amethyst sacred to the Buddha and make prayer beads from it. At the highest level, Amethyst bestows the spiritual understanding required to reach the state of bliss and is associated with the crown chakra at the top of the head where divine essence enters. The most precious Amethyst stones are found in Brazil, Uruguay and the Malagasy Republic.
